Well, today's the day I mark one step closer to five-o and instead of picking out a TDIH (the Fairgrounds in 1980 has been my usual choice)I decided to go with a random pick. Ended up with MSG 79, http://archive.org/details/gd1979-09-05.mtx.seamons.ht63.110829.flac16. Not disappointed as evidenced by the trail of destruction I left on the way to work this AM. If nothing else, the absolute mastery on display in the two transition jams in S>F and Est>Eyes is worthy of at least a year's supply of office furniture. A pristine example of a tour that many put near the top of the Brent years (and not for his sound; the Casio Plink-O-Tron is horrendous, but thankfully way low in this mix). As I attempt to get some work done today, with visions of the glass of Laphroaig waiting for me at home, this one makes the time pass quite nicely.

SDH - Just working my way through email and GD Forum after getting back from Lock'n Festival (which by the way was superb), but hold that thought.

A belated Happy Birthday to you! 50? It's just a number.

Granted, it's a big number, but I've got 52 coming up in a few weeks and since I'm planning on being around for 104, I'm just now getting to the halfway point.

Furthur had 4 great sets at Lock'n - when the Friday night show goes up I highly recommend it. Dark Star, Eyes, Wheel, Saint Stephen, Unbroken Chain...........

Will craft a detailed after action report after I get settled back in to a more sustainable "over 50" pace.

That said, I put most of the crowd I was hanging with in the rear view mirror each night so I represented our age group exceptionally well if I may say so.

Until then....here's the "Workingman's Dead" set from Saturday night. Trey Anastasio sits in for the second half and as much as I am not a big fan of Phish, I enjoyed his band's set and he did a pretty darn good job on Scarlet>Fire. I am pretty sure my ears weren't moonshined and he actually played well.

Thanks for the kind words.

Glad the show was to your liking, and as for the representing our age group, we appreciate the effort, God know we can use all the help we can get. I always think of this scene when I'm at a concert mainly populated by folks under 30:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QereR0CViMY

Could easily apply to any show I saw in the 80's and 90's.

That was yesterday; you might be one step closer. I just listened to that (all my furniture's been gone for a long time) and now it's on to 9/6/79, TDIH, also my first show. I'm approaching the big 50 too but it's just a number and I will not be denied the opportunity to go and beat on my stump pile, should the occasion arise, e.g. C>R transition.

I should have clarified my initial statement. By "random" I meant a non Sept 6 show (this one just happened to be only one day off).

I feel sorry for your "stump pile". Should be careful with that, WT could get the wrong idea. What's that? He already has?. Well, we tried.

You, sir, are more that welcome to try any cock-tail you please. Although I do recommend you try before shearing, I hear the stubble can cause quite the rash.

Have at that ambiguity, sir!

Sheep gags?

Well I guess the bleating could get a little annoying after a while.

I hear a gimp-mask also works well.

I'm thinking you should just retreat to the corner and beat on your stump pile.

Yes, that's right. I think I've found my phrase of the day.

Ah the perfect weekend... getting your freak on with a grappled-clawed back-ho to beat on your stump pile.

which one is it? 5-0
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=five+o
Im guessing its the cops tailing SDH to work due to
all the sound ordinance and roadwork destruction complaints.

Good thing Mando isn't around to hear all that tinkling ~
from '79. He might wet himself.

I got your stump pile right here btw~~
and hope that SDH has Farte Blanche at least:
Unrestricted power to fart at one's own discretion.
Permission to fart freely.
'She gave her husband farte blanche to stink up the bedroom.'

I gotta get to my Twerkaholic meeting. Happy 50, or %) if
you use CAPS. %) is what the Laphroaig hopefully brings
along with the wishes of wellness.

And this
http://archive.org/details/gd1979-09-06.sbd.miller.79749.flac16
is NICE. I like the lyric changes, even the little one in
Althea. And the Terrapin>Playin is sweet, and of course
the China Rider trans... whew

Have a grateful weekend whatever number you all are

If you haven't received your AARP card offer you have not officially reached the big 5-0.
